A protester in a Pikachu suit was arrested by Turkish police in connection with mass protests in Turkey

In a shocking turn of events, the beloved Pokémon character Pikachu has been detained by Turkish police during a chaotic street protest in Istanbul. Authorities have revealed that the figure behind the iconic yellow costume is none other than Burak Şimşek, a 25-year-old local electrician with a history of political activism.

The arrest took place late Thursday evening amidst a wave of demonstrations sparked by the controversial detention of an opposition leader. Protesters flooded the streets, waving banners and chanting slogans, when a familiar figure emerged from the crowd: Pikachu, instantly recognizable with his signature appearance. Initially, onlookers assumed it was a playful attempt to lighten the mood — until police moved in.

As of now, Şimşek remains in custody, facing charges of public disturbance and resisting arrest. His lawyer insists the costume was “a peaceful expression of free speech” and has vowed to fight the case.

The Pokémon Company has yet to comment on the incident, leaving fans wondering if Pikachu’s legacy will be forever altered by this bizarre chapter.
